Darkness

Darkness

I need a friend.  I need a friend to listen to me, to help me.  I am going through a dark time in my life right now.  I don’t have anyone to help me.  At least, that’s how it feels to me.  I feel as if I am falling.  Falling ever downward.  I’m not sure where the bottom is, but it feels pretty damned close.  I can’t pick myself back up on my own.  Every day I feel worse.  I get brief stints of relief from my thoughts during the day, but they pick right back up where they were, sometimes even worse.  Worse because these relatively short-lived moments make every other moment seem bleaker in comparison.  I’ve recently been having… dark thoughts.  Scary thoughts.  I don’t want to think them, but they come to me anyway.  I don’t know what to do to pick myself up.

I need a friend.  Someone that’s close, in-person.  My lack of socializing is getting worse and dragging me ever downward.  I need a friend to pick me up.  I just can’t do it for myself.

Harpalyce:

Let me see if I can articulate how I feel about Legendaries by explain
how I feel about my Binding and, one hopes, the Thunderfury which we
will soon have from it.

A Legendary weapon is NOT just a drop you roll on.

It’s not crafted gear you give to a tank or healer so they have better FR.

A Legendary is a symbol.  It’s something the raid rewards you with
as a way of saying, “thanks for your time, your hard work, your
dedication.”

This is how I look at my lone Binding.  Every time I see it there
in my bags (I look at it a lot, sometimes even in combat) it makes me
think of all the time we’ve spent together, and the fact that SOMEONE
ELSE, not me, but SOMEONE ELSE stated “When we get our first Binding,
it goes to Harp,” and so many of you spoke up in agreement.

Will it make the raid stronger my having that?  Sure.

Will it make me a better tank?  Maybe a little.  But that’s not REALLY the point of a Legendary, now is it?

The point, as I view it, is you’re recognizing someone’s
contribution to the raid.  YES, it should go to someone who will get
the best use out of it, but it should also go to someone who’s given a
lot.

I believe that’s why the Pallies — when they spoke — picked
Arnth.  Not just b/c he’s a Retnub who would put the hammer to good
use, but because he’s been here, getting his ass kicked in the core,
from back when we figured we were going in to get our asses kicked and
didn’t care.

A Legendary is a symbol — look at all the other Oranges which have
been awarded to PAA folks and you’ll see a lot of the same attitude —
and we should keep that in mind.

Should a person have a lot of runs with Waffles?  I think so.
Should that person be somebody who leads, and helps to lead?  I think
so.  Should that person be somebody who’s put forth effort in and out
of MC, on our behalf, someone who gives of themselves?

Well, why the hell not?

At this moment, maybe some of you are thinking of Onassi and maybe
thinking bad thoughts.  Yes, he took a break and yes, now he’s back.
To you I will say that the ORIGINAL conversation which turned into MC
Waffles took place between Onassi and I one day in EPL.  We were trying
to pull together a Strat run, talking about KFR Ony and raiding, and he
whispers me:

“Hey, I’ve got a crazy idea.”

“Okay.”

“Molten fucking core.”

“Ohhh yeah.”

We weren’t ready for it yet, and it was at least another month
before we even looked into doing that, but when we did, he was there to
bring the pain.

Our MC run went in undergeared and with not much idea what we were
getting into.  We spent what, four weeks wiping on Ragnaros, once we
finally got to him?  Now we’ve got BWL running and a little Naxx trash
on the way.  By all rights, we should not be where we are, and yet we
are.

When you talk about awarding something like a Binding or an Eye,
ask yourself some questions.  Yes, I know you want it, and I
understand.  But think about the other folks in the run and ask
yourself if you want it for you or for them.

Rule # 1 in MC Waffles is, “OUR loot is more important than YOUR
loot.”  That means when we’re looting, we try to put the raid, the
group first.  I’d love to see each and every one of you get each and
every piece of loot you could ever want and more.  I hope to be raiding
with y’all when we get to 70 and (heaven help me) beyond.  For that to
happen I think we need to all keep in mind that your gear is on your
‘toon because 39 other people took their time on a Sunday to go play a
game.

Let’s try to be fair and equitable in this and in all things we do.
If we get another big, fat Orange piece of loot, let’s try to put it
someplace where folks looking in on us can see that we’re rewarding
someone that we agree deserves to be rewarded.

I dunno.  Maybe I’m just a sentimental schmuck, though, and I could be wrong.

Torped:

I think that it should work just like pants (but with some exercised judgement).

Let me explain.

So we establish a pecking order for various legendary items. It’s hard
because it can’t be an AP system, people would feel cheated. It’s
harder because people can’t reliably pass to each other without hard
feelings. Making a solid, non AP, run based system? Not too hard and
people can’t argue with the numbers.

I didn’t see what the huge deal was with the eye. If people had
pegged the eye as paladin loot, that made it loads easier. Then there
was a pecking order. Arnth, then Onassi. Arnth wasn’t there (and that
probably should have been the end of that argument as the eye binds).
People started getting all crazy and wanting /random rolls when things
seemed pretty laid out to me. Props to Harp for taking care of issues
as they came up.

I’m inclined (very much) to agree that an orange item is a symbol of
status. You get a lot of /inspects when you’ve got that Thunderfury
trail or the hammer on your back. It would be great to be ready to give
those items to the people who had done great things for the raid but
not very possible. You’ll end up with hurt feelings and drama as
everyone thinks they’ve done something great and are deserving of some
recognition. Note that of the entire raid, we can all only agree that
this type of stuff can go to Harp. Beyond that, people start to get a
little sore in their respective class channels. A system should very
much be in place (and nothing makes more sense than a count of
MC/BWL/Naxx/TTC-flavored Waffles runs).

Its my party and I’ll cry if I want to

So, it looks as if this year I am going to be spending my birthday alone as none of my friends are able to visit me in NC. So, naturally this makes me very sad. I’ve been pretty bored and lonely down here in NC. Having only your parents for company will do that to a man. Anyway, just wanted to get that off my chest. Though I don’t think it was on my chest to begin with, it was really in my head. Must be an expression that I seldom use.

So, wish me a happy birthday if you are so inclined. I guess its time to stop being emo now. /wrists

Michael Jackson. That is all.

Michael Jackson. That is all.

OK.  So, there I was, Friday night, bored as hell.  So bored that I was browsing video.google.com  for World of Warcraft movies to watch.  At some point, I stumbled across this little gem. I was skipping through the german speaking parts going straight to the Dance moves.  By the end of the video, I was thinking, “Damn, that Night Elf dance makes me want to watch some Michael Jackson videos, like Thriller or Smooth Criminal.”  And so, my epic journey through the halls of the interweb began.

I started at Google Video.  But, I don’t recommend that you go there looking for any full length videos of any music video or copyrighted material.  With my Michael Jackson search I uncovered a lot of clips of Michael Jackson stuff but no full length videos.  So, I went elsewhere.

I decided my next stop would be YouTube.com. It was there that I uncovered a treasure trove of Michael Jackson videos.  And so, it gives me great pleasure, purely out of boredom, to present to you, a collection of full length Michael Jackson music videos.

Smooth Criminal

Thriller

Beat It Not sure about this one, I think there may be another part to it.  Will update if found.

Black or White

Liberian Girl Not very musical or dance-like, but cool for all of the cameos. This video has damned near everyone from the late 80’s early 90’s you can think of.

If I’ve missed any others, feel free to leave me a comment with a link or the name of the video and I will try to find it.

^_^ The product of a bored mind on a Friday night while waiting for Monk and Psych to come on USA at 9 and 10pm.  Enjoy.

A friend asked me to translate the previous entry out of
geek-speak.  The translation follows (If I am incorrect on
anything I said, feel free to comment and I will change it):

Windows is now a 64 bit tweak of a 32 bit extension to a 16 bit user
interface for an 8 bit operating system based on a 4 bit architecture
from a 2 bit company that can’t stand 1 bit of competition.

Allow me to translate for you:

64 bit tweak:
The
Windows OS (operating system)was patched (changed, reprogrammed) to be
usable on 64 bit CPUs. (64 bits means that the CPU/Processor/Your
Computer’s Brain has 64 layers of complexity to it. Imagine 64 layers
of circuit boards on top of one another. They are just really small.
Having double the layers is supposed to make the computer faster.)
Supposedly, Windows XP 64bit should run faster n 64 bit CPUs.

32 bit extension:
The
Windows XP OS is merely an upgraded hack for the current generation of
32 bit processors. (32 layers, not as fast.) Hence the older versions
of Windows (3.1, 95, 98) were really 16 bit run OSs.

16 bit user interface:
The
older Windows versions like 95 and 98, were really at their core, the
program heart of Windows 3.1 (A really old version of Windows that was
considered by many to be Windows only real success.) 95 and 98 were
just hacked to have a better look and feel to them. A GUI (graphical
user interface) is the set of windows, buttons, scroll bars, mouse
cursors, start button, desktop, and icons used for a visual
representaion for working with your computer.

8 bit operating system:
Windows
98 and previous versions all the way back to Windows 1.0 were based on
DOS. (DOS was originally developed by a guy who wrote his own OS for a
computer he put together. It was called QDOS, which means “Quick and
Dirty Operating System.” Hehe, guess that means DOS is a “Dirty
Operating System.”) DOS was a text only interface, no GUI, to the OS.
DOS was designed around an 8 bit processor. (For reference a lot of
handheld gaming systems had an 8 bit processor. The Game Boy for
example. Atari and others had one too).

4 bit architechture:
QDOS,
as originally developed, was an OS designed to run on 8 bit processors.
But, at the time, many devices only had 4 bit processors in them. So,
QDOS had to be designed around the idea that it could run 4 bit
Applications. (Applications are any programs that you run on your
computer, AIM, Soltaire, and what-have-you.)

2 bit company:
Many
are bitter about Microsoft and how they squashed most companies in the
early days of OS development. They don’t like the idea that Microsoft
has become a monopoly on a lot of products. Microsoft’s original game
plan was designed around stealing other people’s work on software and
turning it into their own. They did not compensate the other party.
Hence the 2 bit company part.

1 bit of competition:
As I
stated just above, Microsoft kills any competition in any market it
enters into. Thus, they can’t handle any competition and become a
monopoly in many computing fields.

Windows
is now a 64 bit tweak of a 32 bit extension to a 16 bit user interface
for an 8 bit operating system based on a 4 bit architecture from a 2
bit company that can’t stand 1 bit of competition.
